This years Turner Prize shortlist has been announced. The contenders are:
Duncan Campbell, Ciara Phillips, James Richards and Tris Vonna-Michell.
My initial thoughts are that there isn’t an artist who will court the kind of vitriol from the public (via negative column inches in the tabloid press) as we have seen before, such as in the works of Martin Creed switching the lights on and off, or Tracey Emin’s messy bed sheets.
I’m interested in the deconstructed narratives imbued through found footage. This does seem to be the prevalent artistic method on show. Perhaps artists in the current climate do not want to be overly associated with making accessible commercial objects.
Adrian Searle gives a good review in the Guardian.
